NHL Considering Ads on Jerseys

The NHL is moving forward with a landmark policy of endorsing sponsors by selling advertising space on its players’ jerseys. John Collins, the league’s chief operating officer, said it is both “coming and happening”.
Ads are splayed all over the boards below the glass in every NHL arena, but the opportunity to produce more revenue is a significant incentive to officially implement this idea. The NHL has almost doubled its revenue since the inception of the boards’ ads in 2006.
Although there is an undeniable amount of momentum in professional hockey, it still lags behind more popular North American major professional sports such as the NFL, NBA and MLB. Bringing in greater profit through the unexplored avenue of jersey ads is a strategy that ought to help the NHL build on its growth.
